Hey Cody, what's your take on the cantrip Mind Sliver? I've used it previously and I like it because of the fact that it targets an Intelligence saving throw, probably the easiest saving throw to target!! Also, the added debuff of subtracting 1d4 from the next saving throw that the target has to make!!

I'm quite new to DnD and I've noticed I can be a metagamer because of how my brain works. What can I do to get out of this when playing before it becomes a bad habit?

Played with type 8 for over a year only because the rest of the group was cool and the campaign was awesome, the sad thing is the DM saw that his behavior was bothering people but never punished him in any way. I'm never playing with that dude again, especially that he completely ignored when I told him to stop behaving like that because he's taking the enjoyment out of the game for the rest of us.

I think I'm trying to play a "supportive character" in my games, and one of the ways I like to do it is like this: I generally play naïve characters who are relatively new to adventuring, and I RP that they are just so impressed with their new friends, sometimes to the point they will say "If there's trouble, we'll kill them!" Because she trusts that the party is powerful enough to do so. Particularly in one campaign I'm in, which is all women, sometimes we spend so much time trying to avoid conflict, we forget that we have always WON every combat! The DM wants us to do those fights, they are story points, we get important info and treasure after most combats, we have to do them, not avoid them! So tell your other players that you have faith in them, that you feel they will keep you safe, that you believe that your party won't fail! Help them feel like the heroes they are!

My wizard in a 3 year campaign would, without fail, introduce himself with full name, university and subject of his studies and let me tell you, catchphrases like that really stick in the mind of everyone even after years :))

Oath of Glory gets way too much hate in my opinion. It's versatile, flavorful, and Peerles Athlete can be REALLY good if you know how to use it. Maybe I'm just Theros Pilled but the idea of jumping 30 feet into the air, grabbing a flying enemy and pile driving them back into the dirt sounds hilarious to me.

ive played in a few campaigns where the party has several healers: rangers artificers clerics paladins and it works out well, especially with healing word or healing spirit. Ive found that a dedicated healer isnt really necessary when multiple people have that capability

This is great, but I am struggling deciding a voice. My character needs a non-breathy, fast paced voice. Stemming from a high tech race. But I'm unsure how to accomplish that or what kind of examples there are out there to get an idea.

i feel like i could make a good plot hook going down the line out of a player hiding an item from the party. id turn it into a calling card for the enemy faction that the bosses carry or something

Some interesting ways bandits can have added complexity can be found in how they are used. For example a member of a bandit gang can offer his or her services as a local guide and take the party into an ambush. Another possibility is the bandits can lure the players into a prepared kill zone with deadly traps and well-concealed ambush positions. Bandits might also be very interested in kidnapping players who can pay ransom.

I totally agree with Taking20's opinion about the 2014 stat blocks being terrible at representing the giants being "GIANT" they more so feel like warriors with big hit point pool. very boring.

For Metagamers, I just likr to remind them, also as a player myself. E.g. "Remember: Your character doesn't know that.". That should work most of the time.

I've just started running a witchlight campaign. one of my players couldn't make it to the first session, so i claimed she went to the carnival as a weekend trip and ran the rest of the party through meeting the warlock wanting them to visit the carnival. He said it would take them three days to get there and it did. however on the next session when they arrived at the carnival i told the previously missing player that she'd only parted ways with the group eight hours prior. that was fun.

I think you're missing the point about people saying it's career suicide. It's less to do with how the person is depicted. But more so that's its just a financially poor decision. The fact that your entire video was demonetized by talking about its themes I think just further cements that belief.

I wana work as much as possible with my DM about my characters in therms of power, to make sure they do not get too scuffed, but focus on creative roleplaying to make the character immersive for both me, the DM and other characters. Always remaining open for feedback and ideas, and if the DM wishes, they can decide to give my character boons or griefs and I'll accept both well, even death to my character as I am working on having a pool of new interesting characters that I can take use for when able.

as a DM i love players that have interesting back stories for their characters. as a player i enjoy players that know what their character does

1. Know what kind of self-healing abilities your party members have. Let them use some of them, before you start using your healing spells. But it's always great if they can emergency heal themselfs if you are too far away or something. Takes the pressure of a bit. 2. Also, remember that your spell slots are precious, but don't be too precious with them. It's better to use them suboptimally, than to not use them at all. 3. I play support-healer almost always, that's just the vibe I'm going for my character. I like to have a bunch of different healing options. Look into magic items that can give you some more healing other than your spells. 4. If you're proficient with the herbalism kit, gather resources if you can, and make healing potions. Much, much cheaper that way, and you can also keep replacing the used ones if you're away from civilisation. 5. Mind the range of the spells. It's obvious, but I always forget 6. Get some good movement options if you can. It's easier to get into a good position if you can freely move. Teleportation and flying are my go tos. 7. Stay alive. Keep an eye on your hp. Tell the party if you're in danger, because if you're in danger everyone will follow. Communicate (it can be done without metagaming). I'm not that experienced, but these things helped me a lot. The most important thing is still to enjoy the game. Have fun healing!

You should have just gone fighter 1 to start. you get con saves. better hit dice. and you dont have to waste a feat on Resilient. Thats a terrible 1st level feat when you can get the same effect from a 1 level dip in fighter from the start. not to mention proficiency in martial weapons from the start so you dont have to wait until bard 3. This build doesnt scream efficient.

Dream spell, glibness, distort value, and Speedy courier seem overpowered but most of these would be great at my table🎉

My only quibble is that the monsters you chose only have 1 hit point, so even if you assumed the idea of double HP damage being a kill, then are they really taking 360hp of damage or just 2hp?

A bag of flour sitting on the ground won't explode if you hit it with a fire arrow. Flour has to be dispersed in the air before it explosively combusts, so you need to either create a cloud of flour particles in the air or disperse it with another explosion (like the rocket in the linked video). I suppose if you hit a bag of flour with a fireball you could cause it to explode.

I don't particularly agree with the Identify spell and always use the alternate rules for more difficult Identification from page 136 of the Dungeon Master's Guide
